The answer is: It all depends on you.
It is true; you cannot always prevent other's careless driving, but for sure you can minimize the risks.
Bellow there are 8 tips that will explain what i mean.
1. Always be aware of all other vehicles and their movement intentions. Be on a lookout for pedestrians that might cross the street.
2. Drive defensive. This means, in every situation that you are unsure, slow down and be prepared for sudden brake. Not sure that you have been seen? Use your horn. Keep enough distance from the vehicles in front. Drive on the middle of the lane to prevent dangerous overtaking of other vehicles.
3. Focus. When you are riding, focus at ridding and nothing else. You are responsible for your life and for the life of other traffic participants.
4. Read tip number 3 again.
5. Use as much body armour as you can. On the least you should wear a helmet, a jacket, knee armour and boots.
6. You must absolutely know and respect the traffic signs and rules. You would be surprised how many people with driving licence do not know how to take a roundabout.
7. Over speeding is always a bad idea. When you are in a hurry, you do the most mistakes. So be sure you leave earlier so you do not have to hurry. If you are already late, 5 minutes more will not be the end of the world.
8. Be modest. You might be the best rider in the world but there is always something you can learn. You can even take lessons for advanced riders.
I know what you might think. These tips are all only common sense. Well, sometimes all it takes is a little bit of common sense to make the difference.
