Cruisers

Design : Cruisers have long frame design and stretched handle bars. Looks are just great: chrome polish and retro style. They usually have low seat height means shorter riders can reach with the foot down without problems. Also means that the centre of gravity is lower so you are more stabile. On the flipside however, you cannot cut corners or make zigzag through traffic. Cruisers are big and heavy and hard to manoeuvre at very low speed. Laid back position with feet in front and arms wide open is relaxing and give you a daredevil attitude look.

Brake and suspension : The brakes are not the best feature of this type of bike. Heavier the bike, harder to break. But then again when you are cruising along relaxed on country side is unlikely you will need to sudden break very often. Suspensions are bad and on some models even inexistent. A bumpy road feels like hell, so off-road capabilities are almost nonexistent.

Engine : Cruisers usually pack a v-twin engine with low compression. Low compression means it will last more and have a higher resell value. The power is usually low so they will feel a bit lazy at high rpm, but they have a lot of torque at small rpm so climbing hills and mountains is no problem.

Ideal Ride : Relative short cruises along sea coast or country side at 60 to 80km/h. Mountain climbing is also nice. Basically you can have fun riding anywhere except the cities and off-road tracks. For highways you might need a big windscreen.

Subcategories : a. Chopper, also known as custom or chopped cruiser.
